Don’t Be Duped!
There’s a new trend out there that you as a pool owner need to be made aware of. Pool companies have begun to offer winter closing kits containing NO chlorine or algaecide. Zero, zip, zilch, nada. It just so happens chlorine and algaecide are two of the most essential chemicals in closing your pool! Included in those kits may be instructions, that if read through carefully enough, mention that indeed, the chlorine and algaecide MUST BE PURCHASED SEPERATELY. Well, that’s hardly a closing kit! In the age of shrinkflation, these companies are hoping you will see the more attractive price and bait you in, not realizing you will still need to shell out more cash to get the essentials.
Non-Chlorine Shock Isn’t Enough
Non-chlorine shock is not a substitute for chlorine and algaecide. While the addition of non-chlorine shock will help in oxidizing organic contaminants, it is not as effective at killing algae as chlorine. Over time, algae can still grow and take over your pool. However, non-chlorine shock is used to supercharge chlorine, which is why our closing kits contain both non-chlorine and chlorine shock.
The Role of Algaecide
While chlorine is a powerful disinfectant, algaecide is specifically designed to target and eliminate algae, preventing it from taking root and spreading. Algaecide enhances chlorine effectiveness, working synergistically with chlorine to enhance its algae-killing properties. This combination provides superior protection against algae growth.
